Senior SQL Server DBA | Remote Database Administrator Position
Are you an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator seeking to advance your career in a fully remote environment? We are searching for a Senior SQL Server DBA with extensive T-SQL expertise to join our data management team. In this role, you'll oversee mission-critical database systems, optimize performance for both OLTP and OLAP workloads, and implement monitoring solutions using SolarWinds and other cutting-edge tools. Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server database environments (2019/2022) with high availability and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Manage database security, including user access controls, encryption, and compliance with industry standards (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC2).
- Monitor database performance using SolarWinds and develop optimization strategies for both OLTP and OLAP workloads.
- Create and execute database backup and recovery plans to ensure business continuity and minimal data loss.
- Develop and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, functions, and scripts for data manipulation and reporting purposes.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize database schema designs and query performance for critical applications.
- Implement and maintain data replication, mirroring, and Always On Availability Groups across multiple environments.
- Perform database migrations, upgrades, and patching with minimal downtime and business disruption.
- Troubleshoot complex database issues and provide timely resolution to ensure system reliability.
- Document database architecture, procedures, and standards for knowledge sharing and compliance.
- Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation to address emergent database issues (approximately once per quarter).
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
- In-depth knowledge of MS SQL Server (2016-2022) and advanced T-SQL programming capabilities.
- Proven experience managing both OLTP and OLAP environments at scale.
- Proficiency with SolarWinds monitoring tools and other database monitoring solutions (SQL Monitor, Redgate tools).
- Strong understanding of SQL Server high availability technologies (Always On Availability Groups, clustering, mirroring).
- Experience with database performance tuning and query optimization techniques for complex workloads.
- Knowledge of database security best practices and compliance requirements across various industries.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication abilities for cross-functional collaboration and technical documentation.
- Experience with backup and recovery processes for large-scale databases (>1TB).
- Knowledge of index maintenance strategies and statistics management.
- Proficiency in administering SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Nice to Have:
- Certifications in Microsoft SQL Server (Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or equivalent).
- Experience with cloud-based SQL implementations (Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instance, AWS RDS).
- Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for database automation and routine maintenance tasks.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for database changes (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
- Experience with containerized database environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes for business intelligence solutions.
- Knowledge of additional database platforms (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) for heterogeneous environments.
