About The Role
As a Senior Scrum Master, you'll be instrumental in implementing and reinforcing Agile methodologies within our banking environment. You'll guide cross-functional teams through the Scrum framework, remove impediments, and coach team members to achieve peak performance. This role requires not just facilitation skills, but true servant leadership to transform how we deliver value to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and adapt Agile practices within our complex banking environment, aligning with regulatory requirements and financial industry standards.
- Facilitate all standard Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives with professionalism and purpose.
- Coach team members on Agile principles and Scrum framework, ensuring deep understanding and consistent application.
- Lead team formation and establishment of efficient processes to achieve measurable, targeted outcomes.
- Develop procedures for knowledge sharing and expertise distribution within and across teams.
- Create and nurture high-performance teams through servant leadership and emotional intelligence.
- Synchronize diverse team activities, proactively manage risks, and optimize team dynamics.
- Support coordination between multiple teams when required, potentially facilitating Scrum of Scrums.
- Assess emerging problems objectively, identify root causes, and implement solutions guided by Agile principles.
- Track progress and goal achievement through data-driven metrics including burndown charts and velocity tracking.
- Organize and facilitate compelling team demonstrations and insightful retrospectives.
- Foster self-organization, team cohesion, continuous improvement, and courageous decision-making.
- Identify impediments to team performance and develop actionable resolution strategies.
- Provide constructive feedback to team members through one-on-one coaching sessions.
- Mentor the Team Leader and team members on Agile leadership techniques.
- Remove obstacles impeding team progress, including dependencies on other teams.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Scrum Master working with teams of 7+ members.
- Thorough knowledge and practical understanding of Scrum principles, Agile values, and frameworks.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent certification preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to implement Agile practices in regulated environments like banking or finance.
- Excellent facilitation skills for running effective Scrum ceremonies.
- Strong coaching and mentoring capabilities to develop team members.
- Exceptional communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Experience with Agile project management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps.
- Proven track record of removing impediments and fostering team improvement.
- Ability to influence without authority in complex organizational structures.
Nice to Have
- Experience in banking, financial services, or similarly regulated industries.
- Knowledge of Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or other scaling methodologies.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
- Experience with distributed/remote team facilitation techniques.
- Advanced certifications such as PSM II, CSP, or ICP-ACC.
- Understanding of Lean principles and their application to knowledge work.
- Experience with Kanban or other Agile methodologies beyond Scrum.
- Background in software development or technical project management.
